How to Start an Egg Poultry Business in the Philippines for Beginners

When thinking of something to invest your money in, poultry is one of the many businesses that first come to mind. Simply because it seems so simple a business: you raise chickens and/or ducks and sell them. Easy right?

It is easy, once you get past the beginner stage of starting this business. There are things that you need to learn in order to succeed in this venture.

First things first: Choosing a niche or stock.

In simple terms, this is the part where you make up your mind whether you want to raise chickens or ducks or both and whether you want to sell them as meat or just their eggs. You can do both actually, but it will require twice the resources compare to just doing one.

Egg Laying Chicken Niche or Egg Poultry

Let's say you chose the egg laying niche. There are things you need to consider first. First and foremost is the land to which you will house your operation. It cannot be within a residential areas as it's prohibited by our law. Second, you will have to build the infrastructure needed: the Chicken Layer House. This structure should be built with the comfort, well being and welfare of the egg laying chickens in mind. It must have lots of fresh air and light coming in that's why many layer houses are built at least 5 meter above ground level.

Poultry Supplies

This is a no-brainer. Supplies such as feeds and all that stuff must only be supplied by a reliable and reputable supplier. You can do your own research in this.

  • Business Name Registration from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office of the province where the business is located.
  • Barangay Clearance
  • Mayor's Permit and License / Sanitary Permit
  • Tax Identification Number (TIN)
  • Environmental Compliance Certificate
Marketing your poultry products

This is where the money at. The market should be targeted even before you start this business. Without a ready market when the time to harvest your eggs comes is a total disaster. Your buyers could be public market vendors, bakeshops, fast food chains and other industries that uses poultry products in their business. The list goes on and on. The question is: how good are you or the people you will hire at getting the deals with this buyers done?

Poultry business in the Philippines can no doubt be a highly profitable business but only if you know the industry itself very well. So do your research and scout the big farms. How do they operate? What's their marketing strategy? Where do they get their supplies?
